“People are intimidated. They think that there’s 47 years worth of stuff they need to know before they can enjoy anything. And what you want to say is, No. Look, there is a blue box. It is bigger on the inside than it is on the outside. It can go anywhere in time and space and sometimes even where it’s meant to go. And when it turns up there’s a bloke in it called the Doctor, and there will be stuff wrong and he will do his best to sort it out and he will probably succeed, because he’s awesome. Now sit down, shut up, and watch “Blink.”
12 Year-old Schoolboy Wins Village Drag Queen Award
A 12-year-old boy has been crowned Drag Queen of his village in an annual contest.
Sticker, a small village in Cornwall has been running the drag queen contest for two years, after they found not enough girls were competing for Carnival Queen.
This year Redvers Stokes has won the coveted title in a figure-hugging pink number, big lipstick and Dolly Parton-style locks.
Redvers beat off stiff competition from other locals doing everything from Michael Jackson impressions to belting out Dolly Parton hits.
Known as Naughty Nora when in costume, Redvers now attends village events in full drag costume and make-up.
‘I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it, I think it’s really funny. And my friends think it’s really cool,’ he says.
‘I’ve always been open to new things. I might like dressing up in women’s clothes but I still like girls. It’s just a little hobby of mine.’
Redvers’ mum Georgia says she and her husband, Matthew, are chuffed their son has a hobby he loves: ‘I couldn’t be more proud. His Naughty Nora routine is very convincing. I’ve never been concerned. Redvers just loves being the centre of attention. He has no plans to make it a career.’
Awesome. We used to have a little fair in my village every august bank holiday (it was all a bit Wicker Man.) and if there had been a drag-queen contest I may have found it more entertaining.
